Home monitoring system for the evolution of pathologies related to Peripheral Arterial Disease.

The main objective of the Home ITB project is the validation of an ankle-brachial index measurement system based on pulse wave velocity (PWV), in order to benefit the diagnosis and home monitoring of patients with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).

The problem with the traditional method is that it uses arterial Doppler, a procedure that makes it impossible to measure ABI on an outpatient basis. Therefore, the developed method brings benefits in terms of both patient comfort and time reduction for healthcare professionals, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of primary medical care.

The system consists of two parts:

  • Electronic components:
    • First component. Capture of the single-lead ECG signal from the patient’s thoracic region and the PPG signal from the index finger of the hand.
    • Second component. Capture of the PPG signal at the index finger of the foot.
  • Signal reconstruction:
    • Algorithm cleans the raw signals, obtaining clearer signals, making it easier to obtain the ITB index that is obtained at the end of the project.

The results obtained will be the ITB value and, according to preliminary studies, in a faster and more accurate way than traditional methods.
