Medical Robotics Unit

We are part of the nBio Biomedical Neuroengineering research group (http://nbio.umh.es) of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (https://www.umh.es), and we are focused on the use of technology to improve the quality of life. Investigating and developing applications that are useful for people, and that have the potential to be transferred to society, is in our DNA.

The medical robotics group is a muldisciplinary team dedicated to the development of robotic technology in the field of health and surgery. Experts in the development of wearable electronics for monitoring biometric parameters and in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for early diagnosis of pathologies and / or the improvement of quality of life of users. In the field of robotic surgery we work on the development of new intra-operative medical imaging systems, based on RF and US, for application to imaging-guided robotic surgery.

Our main research lines are:

  • Surgical Robotics
  • Image-guided surgery
  • AI for health
  • Health-app development. Wearable health informatics.
  • Diabetes technology
  • Multimodal human-machine interfaces
  • Clinical decision support software
  • Biological Tissue Characterisation with ultrasonic sensors

The MRU has a preferential interest in international collaboration for the development of health applications. Our network of collaborators enriches us and allows us to work on interesting projects and new challenges.
We share projects with European colleagues in the area of surgical robotics and development of non-invasive sensors.
We share projects and networks with Latin American colleagues for the application of technology to specific pathologies such as the management of diabetes or the monitoring of patients with autism spectrum disorder.

We enjoy working on Healthnology
.

Healthnology 23

Medical wearables are the next big thing. History will show that FitBit and Apple Watch are just the early primitive devices, and that the next wave of smart medical wearables will revolutionize healthcare and dramatically improve quality of life....
